Penske Blues
Beware those of you choosing to move cross-country...
We started off the morning with a 16 foot moving van for Alec and I and Alec's brother and sister-in-law. As the wedding gifts rolled in (including a rather large compost bin), and new furniture kept appearing, we decided it might be more beneficial to upgrade to the 22 footer...so Tim, Zach and Bri go to Penske to pick up the van and run into a slew of problems...one of which was a brand new slashed tire. Three hours later, we have a 26 footer, $100 off, and an extra day. Moving, huh? So we loaded up my house and Alec's house, said our tearful goodbyes to Southeast and came out to Mom and Dad's to load up our belongings from their house.
When we arrived, Tim informed us that the air-conditioner was broken and he would melt going through Las Vegas in that. So he called Penske and brought the van in to get fixed. Apparently the hose was clogged, another two-hour delay, and we could switch to a 22 foot van if we wanted the van immediately. Off went mine and Alec's stuff to the new van. And we still have my parent's garage and Zach and Bri's to pack up.
Half a day, two different vans, a broken air-conditioner, a slashed tire, and five weary souls later, we finally have a van to move our stuff from San Diego to Kansas City in. At least we decided to get the van today, not tomorrow, the day before we leave!!!
Moral of the story: get rid of all your stuff and just fly.
