Birds. Bass. Battlestar Galactica
Birds: I know my last post was rather recent, but I had to document this considering the recent chain of events. As you can maybe see from the pictures below, we have some birdies living in our chimney. No big deal, we thought, we'll just call the exterminator and he can move them to where the babies can have a chance of living. (It's rather impossible for a baby bird learning how to fly to go directly vertical, which this not-so-smart mother bird has trapped her young into doing in order to get out of the chimney...) This weekend being 4th of July, we endured the chirping with the knowledge that come Tuesday, those chirps would be silent. Enter kink in the plan. According to out apartment management, the birds nesting so cozily in our chimney are a protected species who aren't allowed to be moved until SEPTEMBER! Because they're nesting. Not really sure how this helps the babies, who are inevitably going to die, but rules are rules. So now we get chirps and the impending death of those little ones with nothing we can do about it. Any ideas?
Bass: Our Kansas City grandparents invited us over for 4th of July celebration and fireworks (which got postponed until after 10 because it was RAINING...but that's not important to this tale.) during which time we met their children and grandchildren. Their son-in-law happens to be an avid fisherman, so he and Alec began talking about fishing. Which is when I left the conversation. But anyway, Dave (the son-in-law) invited Alec to go bass fishing with him the next morning (Monday) at the lake near our KC grandparents' house. So early Monday morning, in the rain, Alec and Dave went fishing. And Alec caught two bass!! He was able to take one home and he cleaned (for the first time), cooked and (we) ate some good fish! We're still in the learning process for how to best clean and cook a fish, but with time, we'll get better, I'm sure. See pics below :)
Battlestar Galactica: for those of you who aren't regular watchers of The Office, the title of this blog is a play on a quote from it. We really don't have anything on Battlestar Galactica.
Love you all!
